General Care Discussion :: RES hates being a aquatic turtle?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Ok so my female RES is about 3 years old. I got her when she was 2 (I believe anyways). She was caught in the wild. She spends her whole day trying to get out of her tank. She scratches at the glass constantly. She is about 4" and is in a 60 gallon tank (3/4 full of water). When she isnt scratching at the glass she is basking (spends most of her day doing this). She practically begs to get out. When I put my hand in the water she swims into my hand and LOVES to walk around the house for hours. Is this weird? It seems she doesnt like being an aquatic turtle, she would rather be walking around with the dogs! She loves the dogs, they love her. She literally follows them around. Its making me feel bad every time I see her scratching at the glass wanting out.

She does spend the majority of her day in the tank. I only let her out for a couple hours in the evening and she basks several hours a day. She just seems desperate to get out of the tank all the time. I wonder if I got her a friend if it would help.

What is the water and air temperature in your tank?

I am not sure of the air temp. But the water temp is between 75 and 77 usually.
