I have a blue florescent light and a regular light. Which one should be over the basking area? Also one of my turtles has started to have what looks to be gold spots on his shell, what could this mean?

The gold spots are probably air pockets undr the scutes - they are going to shed

You need an uva/uvb light and a basking spot lamp (heating) for your turtle, th basking spot lamp should go above the basking area.

ih-jl You need two lights over the basking area. The uva is for heat and the uvb is for the health of the carapace. The basking area should be 90 to 91 degrees. The uvb should be a .50 strength. If you get one that is too strong it will harm the eyes.

Is the blue florescent light a UVB light? Does it say so on the packaging? Both the UVB and regular light should be over the basking area.
