Do all Female RES's have eggs after they mature? like how most female birds lay eggs even when there is not a male? if so ide like to know that way when my female gets bigger I know to put it in some soil once in a while.

Yes they do. they will produce unfertilized eggs if no male is present.

so do i just put some mud in a bucket and let her have them then just throw them away? what if i have a male and i see them mate, what do i need to make the eggs hatch. and when do females start doing this and will she just be sitting there trying to get out of water most the day or ?

when they become restless and if they do mate you need to put her in a rubbermaid tub with some soil and a heat lamp not sure how warm they need to be though but wait untail she becomes gravid then you put her in the dirt

She will try to escape the tank in any possible way.When this occurs, just bring her outside in some soft dirt and monitor her to see if she lays. Or you can make a nesting box with 50/50 mix of sand and soil and leave her in there 12 hours at a time till she lays.The substrate must me at least 8" deep.
Breeding RES is useless since they are so many available at $1 each and so many in rescues need homes. As a personal project you might want to try, you can find lots of info on incubation with google.

Holy cow, I never knew why Sylvia would go through "the crazies". I feel horrible.

Last week she wouldn't stop trying to climb out of the tank. Lasted for days.

It's too cold and drafty (upstate NY) to take her out now- unless I filled the bathtub with warm water.

She stopped trying - I cleaned her tank from top to bottom, got some tasty veggies for her, but I haven't seen an egg.

Any tips on what to do during cold weather?

^ LOL. she lives in a 150 gal tank in my living room. 82 toasty degrees year round.

the HOUSE is cool and drafty.
