General Care Discussion :: Dirty Shell/fungus & sinking?

I think jojo's shell is dirty ... I did clean it after that picture was taken. So when I was looking through the photos it made me a lil concerned. I would just like some multiple inputs. thank you! otherwise his health is good..eating, baskking,swimming and sleeping?
After cleaning him I put him in the tank.. he didn't float..his arms/feet were inside his shell and he sank to the bottom of the tank..is that normal? or was he suppose to float? no loapsided-ness.

oh I know im asking too many questions but does anyone happen to know what those tiny black dots on his "red ear" part is he has a a few of them on each side?

ami: I don't have an answer for the shell/ear concerns but I can tell you that when I put Charlotte in a seperate container to clean her tank, she will put her arms and legs inside her shell and just let herself sink to the bottom. Soon afterwords she will swim around as usual. Does Jojo do that too? If she does, I would say it's normal. She's probably just nervous from you cleaning her shell.

Mine sink like stones when they've been out of the water and have been put back in the tank. Then they swim.

If the dots are basically the same on either side, it sounds like it's just your RES's coloration.

Shell doesn't look abnormal in any way that I can see. Looks like there's some pyramiding but usually shell problems have different coloration than the rest of the shell, all looks about the same to me.

Looking at it in a bit more detail, there is a few spots that look gunky, but just looks like grime to me. You might try taking another picture of em now that they're washed & show us that, would probably give us a better idea. Probably want to take it from the top-down too so we can see the whole thing easily.

a-i I think jo jo is a she. The carapace looks like the scutes are shedding and that is normal. I think if you are sticking to the turtle rules of the road she will be ok. It is normal for a turtle to sink to the bottom when she has been out, especially when they don't like it. It is a defense mechanism to get away.

ami i think jojo is a he. the tail looks massive.
