OK so i had bought to baby res in November and they were both about 2months when i bought them so now its march so there about 6 months old and one of them (the older one and the one that was bigger when purchased) is smaller then the other by about one inch here is a pic of them together
i am wondering if it could be that there different types of res maybe since one is a darker green wit some brown and the smaller one is a little lighter brighter green or if the smaller one has a growth problem????

are you sure each turtle is getting an equal amount of food at feeding time? the larger turtle may be bullying the smaller one out of its food.

I really don`t think we`re talking about growth problems if both turtles are being fed properly. It`s normal for turtles (like humans) to have different growth rates. Sometimes, in turtles, this means that one (the bigger one) is a female and the other one (the smaller one) is a male, but when they`re that small we can`t jump at that conclusion.

as long as both turtles act equally healthy and eat regularly there probably is nothing to worry about.

ok and i was wondering if there size has something to do with them being scared the bigger one doesnt mind being picked up and always has his head out but the smaller one will try to swim away or when he lets me get him he hides his head

Usually the easy way to tell a Male from a Female is there Claws. Male's have VERY large Claws as Females have really small ones as shown in this picture.

welll the bigger one has longer nails but there only like 2-3 inches and i heard u cant tell untill there 4inches or bigger

I have the same problem with my RES earlier, and raised my concerns in this forum as well. So far, the smaller one is catching up on its growth rate and is 2.7 inches, whereas the big one is 3 inches

Yeah it should not be any problem with the turtle them self. I have 3 Baby RES that I got at the same time and they were all basically the same size..a few months later and 1 is WAY huger then the other 2 and 1 other is a little bigger then the smallest one its just them growing at different rates...there different turtles so as said before there sort of like humans.

I concurr with all of the above, when I initially got buster and eugene (only had them since september of last year) I named them thinking they were both boys, butnow Eugene is HUGE with short claws compared to buster and they both are eating well and come to figure out that Eugene is a girl lol
