General Care Discussion :: Little white bugs in tank

Recently there has been these little white things the size of a grain of sand that look like a body with a little tail that they use to flick themselves across the tank glass. Has anyone else seen this? I'll try to get some pictures up ASAP. Can these things be caused by over feeding? All these things do is stick themselves to the glass and sit up towards the top of the water. I see two types of them, one is like a little white worm with a brown spot in them and the other is like the discription above. Any answers would be appreciated! thanks!

sounds like mosquito larvae. If you get some gold fish or something they should eat them...

if that is not a option or you do get them and they dont eat them, ide do a 100% water change, clean the whole tank with a rag and some sort of glass cleaner, clean the filter out GOOD, clean everything and try again. If they keep coming back, then I don't know whats up but little bugs are never good in a aquarium. And i dont think its caused by over feeding/left over food in the water.

I have a area on the left side of my tank where I have 2 large bricks stacked and then on the side of the bricks alot of littler rock pieces for the turtles to climb/hold on to and ALOT of food/waist gets caught in between the rocks and under the rocks and i never get bugs in my tank. but in my eyes bugs are always bad for a tank ...

the worm sounds like fly larvae to me. and the other could be some sort of amphipod or other microcrustacean. hard to say without a picture, but regardless, i would change the water and clean everything in the tank thoroughly, and then watch to see if they come back.

If they're jumping around, it could be springtails (not dangerous for your turtle). Do you have any wood or corkbark in the tank? They thrive in warm, humid conditions.

I dont think it could be springtails because some of the worm-like ones sort of crawl around the tank like an amoeba. BUT I have had an infestation of gnats flying around the house and there seemed to be many hanging around the tank. like some of you said it may be larvae. i'll also try and get some fish to see if they eat them before the turtles do! the weird thing is that they both showed up at the same time. i'll keep everyone updated as things go. Yeah it could be Gnat babys for sure. Goldfish do the trick on eating bugs, there great at it and there cheap...some people say not to feed turtles gold fish because there fatty but personally I think they survive longer then the smaller fish and they clean the tank really good...

im going with mosquito larve bcuz they do alot of the thrashing movement that you have said, do a 100% water change and make sure you wash and scrub your tank out throughly
