General Care Discussion :: bahhh not again

I got the UV bulb and my RES was basking for 2 days and then I got a Zoo Med rock and he stopped, and I reverted the tank back to the old basking area and now he won't bask at all. My RES is eating a bit but hardly doing anything else but hiding or hanging on to plants and stuff. :S

I got a thermometer also and the temps usually between 75-80 F.

you should of left it the way it was

he will get used to the zoo med rock dont worry coop

My hatchling wouldnt bask for 1 week when i first got him and his dock

I took the dock out because it's huge, tried cutting off some to make it small but it's at the smallest it can be, I'm at the part with plastic and metal inside so I can't cut off anymore. I don't think my RES feels safe having to run a football field to get back into the water.

I think tomorrow I'm going to get a big fish or something to keep him company and make him more lively, he seemed to be more active when I had guppies in.

Well unfortunatly i think you should of got a smaller dock or a rock

something smaller for him..causeif you keep changing it up it might cause stress

and it will take him longer to get used to his set up if its changed every day

You should of measured your tank before youpurchased the dock

and maybe you can still return it or get an exchange for a smaller one.

and for the fish..my hatchling didnt seem to like the goldfish in the tank he allways runs away from them but idunno

Yeah the pet store only had the rock I got and a bigger one. Is there a way to clean rocks from outside to make them tank safe?

yeah of course haha..

the big rock i have in my tank is from outside

i just put it in a bucket with boiling water and let it sit for 30 mins and then scrubed it down with warm water..with like a grease remover for washing dishes..

a tough scrub brush kinda thing..

but becarefull cause the rocks can get pretty heavy

my rock in my tank weighs 20 pounds no doubt

Ah ok. I'm using some smoother rocks from the ocean that I cleaned for a long time but the ones outside are a lot dirtier. I was wondering because I can find some more flat stuff and build some terrain with it.

Yep

it definatly does save alot of money..rocks from pet stores can be pricey..just scrub the dirt off and your good

I went to a local hardware/home improvement store and was able to buy a 40 lb bag of river rock (dollar coin size or so). I cleaned an amount that I needed several times with water and added them to the tank. I just built a small ramp up with the rocks. The bag was only about $5.00.

Yeah I got rid of my river rocks because they were holding too much dirt. :\
