General Care Discussion :: im so lost, :( please help !!!

I just want everything to be perfect for my two res. I got them two days ago and they wont eat. How long did It take your turtle to get comfortable with you. And I decided to try and feed them outside of the tank and I put them in two sepreate big bowls. I used water from my water cooler. Is that okay or what water should I use because I know they are suppose to swim in filtered water.

make sure the water is 78 degrees (F) since they r hatchlings. and it took mine one day. i put a pellet in and let it there overnight and he didnt rly touch that one but i put another in in the morning and left and a few hours later and came back and it was nipped at. u should just take water from the tank and put it in bowls and feed them in that.

First ide use water from the tank because its warm and water temp changes can be bad for a turtle. Think of you going from a warm 80 degrees to lets say 65 degrees...and never go off how warn or cold the water is with ur finger..your finger is way off lol...

also always feed them in water. they do not produce saliva so they use the water to eat. They can take anywhere from 1 day to a week or more to ajust to there tank and eat. they can go up to about 2 weeks without eating. make sure to have a heater in your tank and make sure the temp stays around 78-82 degrees.

Thanks so much those both helped. My water is about 79 and I don't have a heater is that fine? I'm thinking I still have to lower the water temp because they still aren't basking. Oh and I got them to eat thank you. I put the food in the tank instead of the different containers to eat and they both gobbled it. I'm guessing it was cause the water temp or they were just scared. that is a good temp for not having a heater. Maybe if your tank gets hotter then yes, you would need to lower the temp. but i would not worry about them not basking unless they dont bask for like 2 months straight...They prob bask when your not looking..there very sneeky critters...you can look over one minute and them be on the other side of the tank and look 10 seconds later and there chilling under there light... if the temp ends up getting more then like 83 degrees you may want to throw some ice in there so they dont get TOOO hot or do a 25% water change with cold water from the tub or sink.

what is the temp of ur basking area and do u have both a heat and a UVB bulb?

Yea I have a heat one and two uvb ones. I about to go but another thermometer for the basking area so Im not sure yet about the temp

I got my new thermometer, wow my basking area was 90. geeze i didnt think it would be so high i guess ill need to lower it. when i felt the rocks i had for baskikng and he dock it wasnt even warm. good thing i got the new thermometer. I got the turtle log, its actually pretty cool. im sure they will love it and it may help my problem with them squeezing between the glass. I also got a turtle calcium bone thing that floats in the water and its flat. Any opinions one thouse? they lady at the pet store said its good but you can never really trust them aha. Any other opinions on good things i should buy? Im pretty sure every pay cheque I get will go towards them(im only 17 so my pay isnt too much lol) they are so fun to go shopping for lol.

yea sorry i was just really nervous. my first pet and my mom said it was all on me and she wasnt going to help with anything. so i was mainly asking how long it would take them to get comfortable with me. sorry for asking i know there were lots of threads about this i read some but it still didnt really answer my question. but i got it all figured out now. thanks for reading and responding anyways Sir Max.
