Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Currently our RES is in a 20L tank and is about 5-6inch across, we are planning to move him into a large tank soon. I currently have a 55g planted tank that only has two flying foxes, a clown loach and tons of trumpet snails. I am wondering if it will be okay to put him in this tank, I can move the flying foxes and clown loach if need be. I do have a lot of java moss, Cryptocoryne wendtii, and some kind of Vallisneria species. Will any of these be harmful to the turtle?
I dont care if he eats them or not.

WHAT NOT TO FEED YOUR RED EAR SLIDER

Iceburg lettuce
Celery
They provide very little useful nutrition or fiber. They are fillers, a way to add variety but not nutrition.

Spinach
Chard
Beets
Rhubarb
Oxalic acid blocks the absorption of calcium. These foods cause the turtle to become calcium deficient even if a good source of calcium is provided which can result in soft shell or MBD (metabolic bone disease) which is fatal.

Beans
Mushrooms
Not much nutritional value, and can cause gout.

Raw meat
Frozen fish
Raw chicken
Causes obesity, pyramiding, kidney problems

id say its more than likely ok. as long as the plants r native to where RES live naturally. and ur panted tank will no longer be a planted tank. just so u know. and depending on what substrate u have in ur planted tank it may need to be removed
65 Gallon
-1 RES (Myrtle)
-1 Pleco (unnamed)
-1 four lined pimelodus catfish (unnamed)
-1 shubunkin (unnamed)

The substrate is aquarium soil, i dont care much if it remains planted anymore as I have given pretty much up on my plant upkeep. He will probably end up digging up the soil though, I totally didn't think about that as it will end being a muddy mess if he does that.
