General Care Discussion :: biting while basking question

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

i have two res, both about 5 months old, presumably one male, and one female. lately, the smaller female will be minding her own business basking, and the larger male will sneak up, bite her foot, and drag her off the dock. outside of this act, there's no real aggression between the two turtles, he doesn't pursue her after he unseats her, and she doesn't appear to be hurt or overly perturbed, buts its damn puzzling to me and mine.

thoughts?

i think that since the one is smaller and the bigger wants to bask and its to small of a basking area so he pulls the small off for himself to have enough room to bask on. mine use to do the same thing bought a bigger dock for them to bask on and now they will bask next to each other instead of fighting over it

It looks like one is getting bullied. Turtles are able to stack on each other to bask. I have over 3 turtles in a tank and when there's not enough room then they stack on each other. My smallest one goes on the larger one's shell.

The rest of the turtles have been adopted to good homes. :)

thanks for the feedback...the weird thing is that the dock is big enough for both of them at this size, and even two more of them, honestly, but that the big one doesnt even bask after he's does this, he seems to do it just to annoy the little one!
