General Care Discussion :: Turtle still not eating right or pooping almost 2 weeks now.

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Almost 2 weeks ago I fed my res carrots for the first time. I cut them up into small pieces. 2 days later she threw them up. Since then she will try and eat. She brakes the pellets up and gets a small amount. Not long after eating it all floats back out her mouth. I have found no poop in the tank. I know most will say the dont either but having no filter I would see some poop after she would eat. I guess I was woundering if anyone has had this happen and could there be a piece of carrot stuck in her that would be blocking her from digesting her food?
She is about 3 years old
she is 3in
And has never really eaten anything but pellets I'm afraid I made a big mistake feeding her. She seems to be ok basking normal and swiming.

If you look back at my old post you will see my story and that I'm res sitting. I say 3 years old cause I know my newphew has had her about 2 21/2 years so i'm just think she would be about that age. She has been kept in a very small tank. As far as the food. When she eats it seems to come back out a little while later. I know she is hungry because she goes for the food and tries to brake it up but that seems to be an issue for her. I only see her once in awhile do what I think looks like a yawn. When she threw up the carrots that was really bad. she was what looked to be dry heaving.. I guess I need to find a vet around me just that the one charges $115 just to walk through the door thats not encluding any other cost plus that vet told me big mistake to feed the turtle carrots! That they dont eat them. So I just dont know what to do

my RES is approx 7mnths old. (ive had him 7mnths and got him as a hatchling). he is 3.5 inches long and i have just recently tried carrots with him as well.i bought a bag of matchstick carrots and diced them even smaller. he snubbed them to start but picked alitttle at them (they wern't a huge hit with him)

also when my RES was small he had a hard time eathing the stick turtle pellets, however i did find "zoo med natural aquatic turtle food - with added vitamins and minerals - growth formula" and they fit perfectly in his teeny tiny mouth. perhaps try that maybe he has a hard time breaking the other food and its too big to settle with him?

also my RES loves floating plant and rosy red minnows (they're his chocolate). mix up his diet? find something other than pellets?

Also my RES eats his poop and i almost never see any in his tank (he cleans up well after himself) my filter looks after the rest.

try minnows and alt veggies. i have read over and over that red and green leaf lettuces are good choices!

good luck!

That vet seems liek a rip off to me. $115 just for a walk in. Wow.

I just had my diamondback turtle to the vet yesterday. It cost only $78 for the check-up and 2shots. One for worms and one for infection. $45 is going rate for a general exam

Would that vet be anywhere near Tri-state area? Ok so I fed her again today and left her alone. When I did return to see the turtle about an hr later she jumped off her basking rock and all the food she did eat came out off her mouth.. With no force..

She may not poop right after she eats---some turtles don't. They can eat it very quickly, and it is possible you're just not catching it.

Her behavior sounds normal otherwise, I really doubt that any carrot is stuck in her throat.

Rather than letting her break up the pellets, I'd try breaking them into smaller pieces and see if she can keep them down.

Maybe since I made so many changes for her that it has thrown her off a bit. When I first started watching her she would eat and poop righ away then I went and fed her the carrots she then got sick. Then I changed her tank gave her a basking light and since I haven't seen the poop.. I know I sound nuts but, I have broken the pellets up and she eats them just most comes out of her mouth. or the food comes up a little while later. She went from eating 8pellets to maybe 3 or 4. I made an appt with a vet for thursday. And not with the vet who said turtles do not eat carrots :) The vet said to let her soak in warm water and that there could be a piece stuck in her not so much in her throat. They have done surgery on turtles before for blocks
