General Care Discussion :: some way to form a bond

Ok so i've read not to handle the turts that much but at the same time i want to form some type of bond with them and i'm not sure how. i see everyone else talking about how their turts get excited when they see them or playing with them.granted i havent even had mine a week yet and they're all still young but idk am i doing something wrong?

my turtles greeted me.. well tuck did.. i think it all depends on the turtle. Speedy was still skitish until this week which is week 3.. tuck was fine and happy and greeting me in 2 days.. i spent a bit of time in front of the tank..
it all comes in time.

if you are the one that always feeds them, they will pick up on it and always be excited when they see you eventually

j-a&v It is all about food. They don't like to be held or treated like a dog or cat. They come to the edge of the tank because you are their food source. It is about food, food and food.

well i put food on their platform twice a day and it barely gets eaten which i dont understand i mean according to what everyone said my temps are good and everything so i guss i need to try something else. i tried lettuce it didnt work reptomin seems like a no go and tuna didn't even work. i'm lost

Try putting food in the water. My mississippi was very shy but then I finally gave him food directly, like infront of his face and now he's swimming and greeting me like the other turtles.

Always feed your turtles in the water. And just keep offering them the pellets and veggies; they'll eventually take to something that they like.

Yeah just feeding them every day worked for me. And now they eat out of my hand. I was SOOO excited when they started doing that. lol But it does depend on the turtle. one took to me right away and the other one is just now starting to trust me. Hes kinda skiddish. And I got them a month ago.

but I just take stick shaped pellets and lightly hold the end and dip it in the water a little and they swim up and take it from me. Its so cute!
