General Care Discussion :: I think i have a sad turtle

Hi

I think my turtle is depressed? she just sits up on here ramp most of the day. i keep her tank clean she has been to the vets a while back because she swallowed stones but now is fine and she comes out... but not much outside because its getting really cold now.

But she just looks so sad and I don't know what to do to make her happy again should i go to the vets again?

I want to feed her live fish but I don't know what ones I can ( I am in New Zealand so not sure if we have different fish). I think that might make here feel better but what else can I do?

she does play with my kitten.

Turtles stay on their ramps to bask for long periods of time. I've seen mine fall asleep there. I actually came home to my RES sleeping in his turtle topper today.

The site here says that you can feed rosy red minnows and guppies to your turtles. Goldfish are too fatty and low in nutrients. A pet store should have their fish labeled. Or you can ask someone that works there what kind of fish they have.

Since it's getting colder where you are it's actually normal for them to become less active in the winter months. Don't worry

We in Nelson and our girls are a bit glum too, the cold weather seems to do it.

I feed them baby guppys off trademe, (black with googly eyes) there also freshwater snails that make a great treat too (ramshorn and comman pond snails or apple snail)
