General Care Discussion :: Dirt for a substrate???

I have sand right now and that stuff is HARD to clean. I'm thinking about putting dirt in there and having grass in the bottom of the tank. But how???
Any suggestions? I'm in eighth grade (going into) so it needs to be CHEAP. As in parents are kinda apposed to it right now and do not want to invest any money into it. Please HELP!

ur um dirt wont work at least i think it wont ...add more sand and plant some sort of an underwater grass and it should do fine

Uhm.. there's no such thing as underwater grass. People usually use moss to create the appearance of grassy hills/spots in their aquariums.
Needless to say your res would destroy it in a matter of minutes.
You could replace sand with plastic grass and some big-medium sized stones.

Your dirt would quickly turn to mud and contaminate your water. Stick with sand, or go with a bare-bottom tank.
