i apologize if this question has been asked before but i was wondering if algae in the tank is harmful for the turtles? i am such a n00b as far as having turtles a pets. i have two turtles Jack and Henny. they are also starting to have some algae on their shells.

You can remove the algae on their shells using a soft bristled toothbrush and water from the tank. Algae in the tank is not harmful. I gave up trying to clean it a looong time ago :-) Turts will even eat it and that's ok too.
