General Care Discussion :: transporting turtles by car

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

My son got 2 redearsliders approx 2 yrs ago as babies (kale and Chloe - my grandbabies). In general I was the one that took care of them. In January of this past year I moved from MO to SC and left to turtles with my son. He will be going to college in the fall and will not be able to keep the turtles in the dorm. He's driving to SC to see me for a visit (a 11hr drive non-stop), I really would like for him to bring the turtles to me but we are concerned if they can survive that long of a drive. I have read all the instructions on transporting a turtle, but there isnt any mention on the lenght/time of drive, I really want my turtles but I dont want to jeapordize their health. Please help!

The 11 hour will not be the problem. They will need to be kept in damp towels and at a constant temp. Cold A/C and being left in a hot car will be a problem. I have transported mine cross country in a styrofoam cooler which kept them temp more constant. There should be a tank ready when they arrive.
