General Care Discussion :: I just realized Niko is going on two years old...

I just literally right now realised after looking at my sig that Niko is going on two years old this July 3rd. I've only had him/her since 9/24/2008 which is about 1 year 9 months and some change for actual ownership.



This is the earliest pic I have of Niko which if I'm not mistaken was taken the day I received him / her which was on 9/24/2008 same as the initial weigh in as seen above.



Now just 1 year 9 months and some change later since Nikos actual ownership with me you can see just how far along Niko has come not only in looks using the latest pic below taken 6/29/2010 but also in size and weight using the above chart.



I do apologize for the quality of the latest pic, I lsot my digital camera somewhere in my house about a year ago and have yet to find it. That aside this newest pic had to be taken with my camera phone which isnt of the hottest quality.

Any way, just wanted to share this with you guys as it's been quite some time since I've posted here

Ps; Using the above growth chart would you say I'm doing aa good job with Niko ? Also, would you guys say Nikos old enough / big enough to be properly sexed ? If so whats the best way to tell, the claws ? If so, correct me if I'm wrong but... longer claws mean male while shorter is female right ?

That aside, whats defined as long claws ? Whats long to me might not be to the next person. Regardless though, wether or not Niko is a male or female atleast the name wont have to be changed since it would click with either sec ;-p

From what I hear, until they are about 4 inches or larger, it's difficult to tell the sex. Claws, as well as tail length and where their opening is are indicators. I think there may be a section on the website about it.

I would say 3.75 is close enough to 4inches. Usually around 3inches+ males start showing they are gonna be males. Best way to sex is the tail. If the opening(cloaca) goes pretty far past the edge of the shell you got a male.

I lose track of the ages of my turtles always lol. I always say im gonna write down when i got them but never do

I'll have to check the tail on Niko later then to see if maybe I can tell. As for age, I only really remember Nikos because it's in my sig.

Any thoughts or comments on the growth chart ?

Edit: Assuming Nikos is a male, no flagging yet if thats what you meant by showing.

As far as the nails, with my boys they are super long. There is no question that you would look at them and think that they are long. I used to wonder whether the were too long until I researched it. I don't remember when I started noticing that though...
