I have noticed that my turtle seems to be shedding his skin. I have never seen pictures of them doing so, so i wondered if i am right thinking he is shedding. He has these kinda fuzzy looking clear strings hanging from his legs. They only look fuzzy under water so i don't think its any kind of fungus, when i take him out of the water his legs look normal and i can't see any of the strings.
So is this really him shedding his skin?

they can shed their skin. last time mine did it was because the water temp was high.

Oh. The temperature in my tanks water is usaully around 80 The highest it ever gets is 82 and thats rare.

yeah if my temps got that high they shedded more, i toned it down to about 75 and it stopped.

Okay but how do i lower the temperature? I don't have the money to buy a chiller.

Work on keeping the room temperature low. You can also freeze some water in large bottles or work on partial water changes.

What about throwing some ice cubes in his tank?

ice cubes would be short term, a frozen water bottle would last a lot longer. think of a sunny day. if you put a cup of ice and water out it melts in say an hour, you put a bottle of frozen water out it melts in maybe three. Also the number you would need of single cubes not to mention them being eaten would be alot. Just take a regular store bought water and freeze it.

yeah, if you notice the water drops too fast try less water in the bottle. its a process of getting the right amount of ice to tank gallons figured out. also on a side note make sure you heater isn't turned up too high. i like mine because it has numbered temp settings and will automatically turn on and off.

Okay! thanks my dad has some mini water bottles i can use since my tank is kinda small.
