General Care Discussion :: What is my turtle doing?

[Ranger The Red Ear Slider]

I noticed Ranger sometimes swims and all of a sudden just stops and sits on the bottom and extends his neck out all the way and opens his mouth. What is he doing? I don't think it's RI cause his water is fine and no drafts near his aquarium and he is not showing ant other symptoms of it. He's acting normal eating, basking and swimming, but he does it a few times a day.
Help!

Maybe he sees something he thinks he can eat?

Hm well he sometimes does it face towards his background which has plants on it, But sometimes he does it face toward nothing and just towards the glass.
