General Care Discussion :: Pregnant? Or just chubby?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

My female RES has some flesh spillage in front of her hind legs. She hasn't been eating regularly but the bulging has been getting more noticable. Also, she spends A LOT of time basking. I've seen the male do the dance to her, so I guess it's possible. I haven't had them for very long so I don't know if this is normal behavior for her or not. I tried to feel her for eggs but she's very shy about being touched there and I don't want to hurt her by accident. xD So does anyone have a PICTURE of a pregnant RES I can compare to? I tried to google for one but all I get are 2 headed babies and porn for some reason.

you basicaly have 2 options...
"convince" her to let you feel her belly
take her to a vet and x-ray her
1 red ear slider, male
1 red ear slider, female
??? feeder fish
2 white mice male and female (many more to come)

You probably won't be able to visually conclude she's gravid. When I wanted to feel for eggs, I would let my turtle walk around the floor and when she stopped, I go in to feel for it.

Yea your turtle is probably just chubby. You shouldnt see any difference. I cant tell any difference before or after when my turtles lay eggs. Just in weight when i pick them up.
