my uncle gave me a filter from his tank. he had two res the died withina year of each other they were 15 years old. could my turtle get sick from this old filter?

u should clean it and probably get new media for it... just use hot water and scrub dont use soap or anything

Careful with the hot water... but also consider using some diluted bleach too. But definitely get new media.
