General Care Discussion :: My RES's are not sleeping anymore??!!

My 2 RES are not sleeping a lot lately ever since my last water change. I don't know if the waterfall coming from the filter if affecting their sleep or not, but I have had the filter for a month already and they did not have problems before. They used to like to stick together on a bridge decor when they go to sleep at night, but now they just floats around the tank a lot. Will this affect their health? I'm worried and don't know what I can do to help.

My little guy sleeps underwater just poking his nose out. Occasionally he will lose his grip and float around before waking up and heading back to his sleeping spot. Maybe your turtles are doing the same, or maybe they are just waiting until you are gone before they fall asleep.

Is it completely dark when the lights are up? My RES will stay up if there's even a little light.

My filters are timed to go off at night and kick back on in the morning.

Cover the tank to make it completely dark.

A filter should really be running 24/7. Do you think there's too much turbulence? I don't know which filter you have, but if it's an Aquaclear for something similar, you could add a plexiglass lip to help break the fall of the water.

my filter is Tetra Reptofilter which by the way works very well

Keep the filter on at night, turning it off would just make the water dirty if he poops at night and kill any beneficial bacteria in your filter. I've seen the reptofilter before it doesn't seem like it would disturb your turtle at night.
