Hi everyone,

I got my RES around 2 months ago and have been trying to take good care of him/her. But i think i overfeed my RES. So i am posting some pics of my RES to ask you guys about MY RES's general condition.

Detail of My RES
1. Estimated age :- 2 months
2. Size :- 2.5 inch
3. Sex :- unknown

Some questions

Is my RES starting to shedding ?
Is my RES maturing faster than normal because of diet.

Detail of the Tank
1. Size :- 30 gallon
2. Submersible Heater :- 110 watt
3. Heat light :- 100 watt
3. UV light

I plan to use this tank for a year and construct a outdoor pond to keep my RES. Is it ok ?

Any comments and suggestion would be greatly appreciated

Welcome. Hatchlings do have growth spurts, however the seam (dark area in between the scutes) is really wide, so it's clear he has done some rather fast growing...

What is he fed? How often is he fed and how much is he given at a feeding? If he''s been getting a high-protein diet and/or frequent, large portions, it would be good to alter the diet and cut back on portion size.

The size of the tank you have for him is OK for him now. What kind of UVB light are you using? What's the temp of the water and basking area?

A pic of the set-up would be good to see if you want any comments or suggestions.

It's like you're holding one of my RES in your fingers. They have almost the same features except for the color. I've started lowering their pellet intake and introducing them to veggies.

hi apradhan and welcome to the forum!

it look like your turtle is begging way too much for food. =) feed a porting of the size of the turtle's head 1x per day tops, no more than that....

the set up will help like @marisa said....

just to give you an idea, here is my set up.... i went through the same thing you did. if you look at my previews post

this is smal compared to what i've seen out there.... but still this picture of my turtle show signs of overfeeding:

One of my babies has a shell that looks similar to that. I think he stole food from my other turtle...
I thought his shell was still showing signs of damage from when I first got him and he was very sick. But after seeing this thread, it is definitely overfeeding.
