General Care Discussion :: Map and RES together, is it okay?

I am thinking of adopting a Map turtle from the Reptile Rescue, it was previously housed with a RES that were a owner surrenders. Are their needs much different from one another? The RES I currently have is a male and the Map is a female will two different breeds mate with each other? I don't really want to be cleaning up eggs in the tank. The Map is a bit skiddish but currently she is in with 4 other rescue RES that are a bit bigger than her. My RES doesn't seem aggressive but he is very active and will swim crazily when he sees anyone near the tank. There about the same size about 4 inches, mine is almost two and the Rescue thinks she is about 1yr and half. They will be together in a 90g, if there is any aggression I do have a 55g planted to move her to if absolutely necessary. (though I am sure she will destroy my plants and I would have to move my Cichlids to a 30g)

Their care should be similar and I do believe they can produce viable hybrids. So if you don't want to deal with eggs/nesting, you cannot keep them together.

Would she lay her eggs in the water and I could humanly dispose of them? I dont want them to be eating them and creating a huge icky mess. If they don't lay eggs in water will she become egg bound? As part of the adoption policy we are not suppose to allow them to breed.

It's unnatural for them to lay eggs in water. Instinctually, they'll want to nest someplace they think is appropriate and safe from predators.

Eggs in water, as a last resort, is a better option than being egg bound.

also remember they will lay eggs up to two or three times a year at most even without a male. They lay eggs no matter what so I would do it if I really wanted a Map since they do look cool but no matter what, in a different tank or not she will lay eggs.
