Try to up the temp 2 or 3 degrees to see if it gets their attention. Also, what kind of lamp are you using? Does it spread outward?

the bulb i am useing is a 125W heat lamp it looks like a sopt light, so it is somewhat directional. the current temp is 91* i can try moving it closer to up the temp a bit.

one odd behavior i am seeing is, before, when they were basking normally, i could pick them up out of the water and put them on the basking area and they would sit there and bask. now, if i put them on the basking dock they leap off of it as if its made of lava. its not too hot to the touch, i can comfortably keep my hand on it.

i'm not really sure whats up with them.

A spot light isn't the best for a basking area and 125W is pretty intense... how close is it to the basking area?

it is about 18-24" away...

i went that rout because the other bulbs i had were not able to get the temp above 85*.

i did notice yeterday that they both spend time out of the water. just not very long. they stay on the basking area 1 minute at most but they climb up there too many times to count. but they only seem to do it untill noon-ish.

Maybe cover the sides of the tank... give them some privacy to adjust to the changes.
