I was just wondering what every one uses for water conditioners. I use biotize by exo terra and i also use reptisafe by zoo med as well as these two conditioners i put in a calcium stone. I do use tap water. Saying that, i read in the water quality forum that it is not recomended to use the calcium stones. Do you use calcium stones?... i have been doin this since i first got my turtles and i have had no problems. for the first year, i did have an insufficiant filter but now i have a Rina canister filter as well as a small internal filter.

I use a 5 stage RO/DI unit to filter water then add Kent's RO right or Brightwell Remineraliz-p

I dont bother with water conditioners. Let it sit for 20 min and throw in the turtle. You only really need conditioners for Fish which is usually a Must because they are very sensitive to chlorine which turtles are not. They do great in almost any water quality that ant too acidic or hot. They even do great in colder waters but that's only recommended when hibernating. But ya, sorta a waist of money when dealing just with turtles. the water condition's its self after 24 hours basically anyway.

i have reptisafe but i dont use it. sinister is right, you rly dont need one. i used it when my RES was a hatchling but now thats is a yearling i just dont see the point

I use dechlorinator, only because the chlorine really bothers Tomi's eyes. If I had a smaller tank, I'd just let the water sit.

I like knowing that no matter what my municipal water treatment facility does to the water, I can produce consistent clean pure water for moe and the fish. I can move across the country to a different water supply and moe can have the exact same water. If something leeches into the local water supply, moe is safe.

I also like the lack of lime deposits and other white cruddy buildup that gets all over the tank and filter. I wouldn't call good water treatment a waste of money at all.

im actually really suprised! i didnt think that this many people would be using nothin but water!.. i think id like to keep using conditioners because i moved to a different provence and i think the water is way different here, so for me, i believe its good to use conditioners also because i live in an apartment and i dont know what kind of stuff they use in the water to purify it. But i'll deffenetly keep in mind that conditioners arent as important as i thought and maybe i should cut back a little. .. id also like to say that my turtles sure do enjoy the calcium stone, they love to chew on it. i think they like that its fizzy! they are so much like my little children.

oh and VeipaCray, thats some pretty fancy stuff.. i'd love to see ur setup!! ... i wish i could get nice new things for my turtles but i live in a small town and its hard to get things ready made so i just make em myself!! unfortunatly i dont have the experience to make big things like wet dry filters or three tanks made into 1. ....one of these days maybe!!!!......

Try www.craigslist.com in the pet section. alot of tank supplys/tanks/turtles/turtle stuff...REAL Cheap. can find killer deals on there. Like 600$ Tanks for 100$ or less WITH extra's. I see 300 Gallon tanks on there all the time for under 150$ and those size tanks usually come with nice canister filters or wet dry filtration systems.

In my signature, there is a link to my current build thread. The RO setup isn't fancy at all... I got a cheap one from http://www.purewaterclub.com. I'm not affiliated with them in any way, but their RO units are probably the least expensive you will find and work very well.
