General Care Discussion :: My turtles are spitting their food, instead of eating

Hello guys,

2 days ago, i was worried that my two babies turtles were not eating any food. but, lucky when i came back home yesterday i saw them eating some of my food that i dropped in the tank. However, When i looked at it closely today, they weren't really eatting, they were spitting out big potion of the food. They ate a little but 75% of the time they were just spitting it out. Is there something wrong my turtle or it's usual?

What are you feeding? If it's too large for them they will sometimes bite it then spit it out as they try to break the food into smaller bits.

Probably just too big. When I first got Luffy and Ninja they couldn't finish a pellet. They had to break it to little pieces or leave it for a while so it would soften.

i'm also going to put my vote in that the food is to big...turtles tend to rip their food apart when they eat so it's not really anything to be worried about.

It's also possible that the pellets are "sticky." Pellets that soften quickly and can be difficult to get down are sometimes spit back out. They should be broken into small pieces.
