Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hey guys,

I was watching spiderman last night, and ended up sleeping downstairs...but i completely forgot about the lights on the turtles!!!! Is it ok for them to have the lights on 24/7 for one day? Because i'm not gonna turn them off and ruin my sleeping schedule (and theirs) :(.

I came up this morning, and tode (i think) was at the top basking, he really doesn't like to get in there, just by the edge, not under the heat. But, he is definatly getting the uvb! He must like to just fall off for quick escapes :)

I wouldn't worry about it. Y'know what's worse? I actually forgot to FEED mine once  Just get them back on their normal schedule.

If a turtle can survive some of the environments and abuse we've seen and heard of, then one day with the lights on for too long or not getting their food in a timely manner isn't the worst that could happen.. :)

So for one day they lived in Alaska

I called my stepmom the other night to tell her to turn off Veronica's light and then a couple hours later when I came home there was Veronica asleep on her basking dock just soaking up rays because my stepmom had gotten side-tracked and forgotten to turn it off.

I freaked out just because I didn't know if it was healthy for her to just be dead asleep on her dock in the light. But I've seen her fall asleep during the day on her dock before for a few minutes or so so I shouldn't really have been too worried. :)

You should really get a surge protector with a timer built-in. It is so much easier for you and your turtles. I bought one from SurplusComputers that Steve posted in the Online Links and Deal forum for $11.99 + free shipping (Thank you Steve). I should have bought another one for backup. But unfortunately, SurplusComputers doesn't seem to be selling any of them anymore. It's pretty good actually. I've been using it for over 4 months now and it works wonders. It was also dirt cheap considering these things cost around $20-$40 for one. You can try finding one on eBay.
