I need some help with a female res. She isn't eating and appears to be in excellent health. I think she might be needing to lay eggs. She isn't eating but will take food from me and spit it out. Today and yesterday she is very much wanting to climb out of her bin. It's 29 degrees outside today, so I went and got some clean garden soil and I'm baking it right now to get it to a comfortable temp. I don't know what else to do, can someone with experience help me. My girl is approx. 6 inches and she's an awesome turtle. Cindy

DO you know the age of the turtle? they start laying anywhere from 4 years old to 6 years old. What you want to do is just put her in a box with soil and just keep a eye on her, she will start digging if its really eggs.

Have you tried feeling for eggs? Gently use you finger in the area in front of the rear legs (not between the leg and tail). If you feel anything, then it's probably eggs. While trying to climb out, was she responsive to you or did she just ignore you?
