General Care Discussion :: same old basking question

just got 2 of these res from petco weve had them a little over 24 hours very active eating scared of things close to the tank which i would think is normal. im using slate rock and driftwood all natural stuff that i sterilize myself. i made sure the area was solid to support weight and the area is angled into the water just slightly. but they havent even tried at all yet. (that ive seen)

im assuming its a comfort thing as the temps seem right from what ive read

Yes, you might even want to cover the side so they're not distracted. The basking area looks interesting, however it does look like it can pose as a trapping problem. RES are very curious and like to squeeze into tight places, please remember that.

i didnt know that i dont believe there is any place they can get far enough into to get stuck but i will double check

so i changed some things been about 2 weeks now went to an over tank basking setup and double 55's after seeing a setup like that on this site i had the other 55 and i liked it so much i had to do it. basking area is about 88-90 degree's it vary's from day to day uvb bulb and water is a solid 76 degree's


still no basking im quite confident they can get out as ive been placing food on the landing and it has been disappearing. i have insomnia and im up all kinds of hours and have yet to see one actually sitting up there.

my real question here is how long before i should really be concerned and start taking them out. they seem to just now be getting use to me and the family i have one that gladly comes over for food when i approach the tank.

I'm not sure if I'm seeing things correctly, but it looks like the basking ramp does not extend far into the water. They might put extra effort into grabbing food, but when they go back into the water an eat, they might remain there.
