General Care Discussion :: Shell/scute spacing issue

hello all,

i have a concern about one of my res - the spaces between his scutes seems to be growing larger as of late, is this indicative of a problem? overfeeding? lack of something in his diet? other?

perhaps this is normal, perhaps this me overthinking, but his tankmate isn't exhibiting this type of growth, so i thought i'd pose the question. the turtle is approximately one year old, he gets 4-5 reptomin pellets once a day, and has uva and uvb lighting 14 hours a day.

thanks for posting this, my turt has some of the same "issues." i wish i had advice, but i hope i can get an answer too!

It's an indication of fast growth. It might be time to cut down on the pellets and add a bit more variety into the diet.

The flared edges on the marginal scutes and the smaller, whitish scutes that are still on the carapace, indicate that he has scutes to shed.

i agree with marissa and the other post about changing its diet. cut back some and the problems you see will begin to revert back to what it was with time and a few good sheds
