General Care Discussion :: My RES female is aggressive

We have had her for 7 years but everytime we take her out she snaps and hisses at us. We have treated her like our own baby and with kid gloves almost literally. However, I don't know how much longer after enough bites and hisses we can hold out. That is why I am looking for advice as to how to treat the behavior.

Could just be her personality. How often do you take her out or handle her?

Sliders are much more at home than out. They are out of their element and some just don't like it. They are water turtles and don't like to be walked held like a cat or dog. They are just a cold blooded reptile and in most cases a solitaire animals.

Maybe she has eggs? I'm no expert but 7 years their old enough to have em and I know their behavior changes when they have eggs.

we try not to handle her very often. We take her out when we clean the tank thoroughly or when the shell needs cleaning. I just remember when she was younger she was not like this. We used to take her out more cause we had a smaller tank back then. I guess I am just looking for an answer to this problem but as I keep researching it I'm finding that this really is a personality engrained thing which may mean not much can be done.

I wouldn't classify it as a problem. Is she aggressive in her tank, like upending decorations and biting everything?
