I got a turtle from another teacher's student who had to give him up and I have never had one before. I have had him since September and I've done some research, but there is not a lot of very specific information for people who have no clue what they are doing. I can post some pictures and I'd just like you awesome knowledgable and experienced folks to give me some advice.
My turtle, Alexander the Great, is a male (I think), a couple years old. He has not grown a whole lot and right now I'm keeping him in a 20 gallon long tank. At school I have a new 40 gallon that I am setting up for him. He was being kept in a 10 gallon with aquarium gravel.
I think he is now shedding his scutes (normal, right?) but they are all starting to come up at once. He is basking more. He eats like a champ, mostly turtle pellets, sometimes we give him some guppies to swim around with and hunt. He REALLY likes those, and I put lettuce and carrots in sometimes although he doesn't really like those as much and will only eat a little of it. I do also put a cuttle bone in for him to munch on and he does, although I only started that recently (within the past month). I had been using the little turtle supplement blocks but they dissolved pretty quickly.
Can you all just take a look at my little baby and give me some advice? His shell is turning up at the ends and I don't think that's normal. Also along his back some of his shell is bumpy and I think this is recent. Thanks a lot, you all!
