General Care Discussion :: is my res mating or fluttering?

hi everyone, i have 2 RES, Emma and Sheldon. i brought them home around 1 yr ago, so i guess they are around 1 ~ 1.5 yrs old now. And few months ago i notice there were doing the mating dance, since they were still small ( 2.5 ~ 3 inches) i think they are fluttering and not mating. but yesterday i saw sheldon was pushing and riding on top of emma, then spray some sort of fluid out from the tail

are they actually mating? but aren't they too young to mate now?

That black spray is a turtle pecker . You might have some aggression problems. How big is your tank? Male turtles can be very harassing to females and the female may fight back. I would keep an eye on them.

u mean they are actually mating? they are in a 40 gallon now, i hope they are not mating, as i m not ready to have more turtle yet

They are trying to. They won't make babies unless the female gets pregnant. She will have to find a nest to lay eggs, and you will have to take care of them for them to hatch.
