General Care Discussion :: Another turtle??

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I just got a call from an ex-coworker asking if I wanted a turtle. Seems my default answer is a quick "yes" to things like this  He said he's got a client that doesn't want it anymore. He says it's aquatic so I'm assuming it's a res. His current conditions sound pretty awful. I guess my obsession is pretty well known now. Just can't decide about it tho because things are kind of crazy for me right now.

I guess I'm wondering what you all would do....

he's sending me pics tonight.

I believe that if you can afford another turtle, then you should take him. But if it's gonna be a stretch, you shouldn't. Or atleast try to find him another home with better conditions.

That's the thing. I'm in the process of selling my house and I'm not sure where I'm going to end up yet. Maybe the pet store will board him for me in the meantime. Either way, I'm going to wait for pics before I decide.

I'm moving into an apartment so a pond is not in my future. I'm looking for a place that will fit at least three 125 gal tanks along with my boxie pen.

If you don't have that much room, then I'd say no. I don't have much room right now, and I don't truly know where I'm gonna put my turts in the future. It's really concerning, but I do know that I can always make room. ^_^

Ok, I'm lost here.. I thought you just moved into your house? Do you get any equipment with this new turtle or are you going to have to find another enclosure for him?

I did just move into the house before Christmas but I'm now selling and filing for divorce so I'm looking for an apartment.

I know nothing about how this turt is being kept as far as tank size, etc. I just know he gets no light and no real basking spot at all so I'm going to assume that the tank he's in now is too small anyway. Maybe I'll just agree to take him so they'll give him up and talk to my buddy at the pet store and see if they'll just throw him in their pond w/the others. At least he'll be better off.

I wouldn't over-reach if you've got so much on your plate. But, if at all possible, I'd try to find the turtle a better home (even get in touch with a rescue or get the person who wants to give him up to do it).

Yeah that's kindof where this is going I think. Even if I didn't take him, I'd like to make sure he gets out of that sad situation.

Holy crap I can't imagine what kind of apartment would fit all that! haha Unless if the area that you live the apartments have HUGE living rooms! Or else I guess you'd have to get an extra bedroom just for the critters! haha :)
