Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri May 27, 2011 1:45 am   Turtle blows lots of bubbles?

One of my little turtles blows bubbles and then attacks them all the time. but he's been doing it a lot lately and I was wondering if this could mean he has an respiratory infection? Like...is he sneezing, or is he just playing with bubbles? i haven't noticed any weezing sounds or signs of fatigue, and he eats totally fine. but i know they're good at hiding sickness. so i don't know.

Out of the nose or mouth? And are they leaning on one side as they swim?

Mine does that too. Seems healthy. In my case it just looks like regulating submersion level. He wants to dive deeper and he burps out bubbles of air to make him heavier.

No one is leaning sideways and I can't get close enough to see if it's the nose or mouth

Unless there are any other symptoms of RI I wouldn't be worried. Mine blows bubbles out to. I think it's like us holding our breath under water. We blow out air too when we are under a little at a time. Only difference is turtles can hold their breath a lot longer then us.

he seems to be swimming fine, no leaning or anything. he blows them out of his nose and sometimes his mouth. but if lots of other turtles do this, i'm just going to assume its normal lol
