General Care Discussion :: turtles will only eat pellets and vegetables

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

hello, I have 2 red ear sliders about 2 1/2 inches each. All they will eat are pellets and vegetable leaves (turnip greens, red leaf lettuce, and green leaf lettuce). I have offered live feeder fish (rosy red minnows and guppies), freeze dried blood worms, and canned crickets. They wont eat any of that. I feed them in a separate bowl with luke warm water. they gobble up the pellets right away. I let a vegetable leaf float in their tank all day for them to nibble on. they also have a cuttle bone that floats around in their tank to snack on for calcium. I know turtles need variety in their diet. But if they wont eat anything else will it hurt them? (since the pellets, vegetables, and calcium are the most important things). Any advice will be helpful. Thank you :D

Sounds like you have them on a healthy diet. The pellets will provide them with the protein they need. They don't need live food. Many of us only feed pellets and a variety of vegetables. Your doing great!

Ok. That's good to know! Just wanted to make sure they are getting what they need. Thank you!
