i have a male false map roughly aged 2, prior to me gettinghim he had very poor living condotions,(no UVB, poor heat lamp. poor diet, porr filter, small tank) i have had him close to 2 months and he started to show signs of shedding a good month to six weeks ago
he is now properly shedding but the scutes are not coming off in 1 piece, they are coming of in bits, either the outer edge of the scute of even from the middle of the scute
is this ok and is it down to his poor living conditions in the past?
he has everything he needs now i.e UVB, heat lamp, atba, good diet
would upload pictures but i lent my friend my camera and he still has it

If there is/was shell damage through injury or infection, it could make it more difficult to shed. The edges of the marginals sometimes take longer to shed, since they are much thicker. If the scute underneath is in good condition, I wouldn't worry about it.

no his marginals havn't started to shed yet or show any signs of it coming, its his central and costal scutes. its such a small area thats lifting i can't really see under it to see what condition the new scute will be in.
how thick should the shedded scute be as the parts that are lifting are hard just not very thick at all.
when i get my camera back i will up some pic

A picture would be helpful. Scutes that are shedding are normally very thin and translucent.

nothing has actually come of yet but when he is out of the water and dry you can see parts of the scute sticking up, but not the edge, in the middle
i will get a current pic uploaded soon but i have one here from about 2 weeks ago and i have circled in yellow where he is shedding now.the yellow indicates exactly where the scute is coming away, so inside the yellow circle is where he is shedding.

I don't think I see a problem with the picture. Shedding is still good overall but it's nice when they come off in one piece.

had a look before i went to bed last night and the parts that were lifting had gone,
