General Care Discussion :: Fostering 2 turtles need advice.

I just fostered 2 RESs and my friend told me before I picked them up that they had fungus growing on their shells. You can tell their shells aren't in great condition. One of the kids that the owner had got salmonella from them and I'm just worried of putting them with my turtle.

Is there any thing I should be worried about with putting them in with mines or should I be okay? Also any treatments for their shells and getting them to good shape would be great. I'm planning a vet visit next pay check.

If they have fungus, it would be highly contagious to your turtle. Additionally, quarantine should also be done for 3 months. So my response is not to keep them with yours.

You'll have to keep them separate until all are healthy and you have the appropriate tank to house them.

Well from what my friend said they didnt have fungus when she picked them up. Only signs of illness I visibly see on them is that there shells are in poor condition. Other then that they've been acting energetic and lively ever since I put them in.

3 months is a really long time for me to leave my turtle out of his main tank... especially since he isn't getting proper basking in the other tank.

Why is your turtle out of the main tank? I'm not sure why you want to risk infection and probably stressful habitat conditions.
