General Care Discussion :: What are Mario and Yoshi.

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hey.

My husband and I just adopted a couple of turtles from some guy in Mumbai, India. We were told by the pet vendor that these are Malaysian turtles "very sturdy, feed only once a day, verrrry goood kachwas". Feeling sorry for the state that these littles ones were kept in, I insisted on bringing them home. But now that I am caring for them, I'm not entirely sure if I'm doing it right.

Mario and Yoshi (my new turtles) are tiny, about 2 - 3 inches long and an inch and a half wide. Their shells have a 2 red humps (for lack of a better word) in the center and they have red a red line going around the edges of their shells. They also have a red line on their necks and red dot ears. After much research, I've found that they may either be RES or painted turtles. Please help me figure out what they are so I can care for them better.

At present I have them in a little plastic tub with river rocks and a few inches of water. We have also placed a large rock in the center of the tub to allow them to bask. Initially they were super active but now they just lie around and for the past 2 days they have refused to eat. They have also started to shed. Since its the monsoons here, they haven't been able to get enough sunlight. What do I do?

Hi, welcome to the site! Would you be able to post pics of these little guys??

If you can't get them any UVB, either natural or artificial, then make sure they are being fed a good pellet that includes calcium and Vitamin D3. If you got these from the turtle seller, I would go out and buy a fresh container.

Pictures would be a tremendous help, since I know of a couple of species that have a few of the things you described. We could also tell if it was a hybrid or intergrade of 2 species as well.
0.1.0 - Trachemys Scripta Elegans (Duper)
1.0.0 - Graptemys Nigrinoda Nigrinoda (Peanut)
0.0.1 - Malaclemys Terrapin Centrata Concentric (Speedy)

Hi,
in all probability the turtles are indian tent turtles or assam roofed turtles. they need a good preferably a wooden platform to bask ( 60 watt bulb) . Feed them crushed shrimp or chicken liver, dont keep them in high water , the water should be a bit warm. They are prone to respiratory problems. Indian tent turtles are an endangered species, if you cannot care for them please donate to your nearest people for animal shelter .

tnx,,,and try n post some pics if you can....
