General Care Discussion :: Lighting and Schedule *New Owner*

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hello everyone ~

Just got my baby RES about 2 weeks ago and finally getting her settled. I've been misinformed by pet store and seller about a lot of things...like gravel (which I have to replace with something safer) and lighting. And I bought one of those stupid starter kits...I finally got a UV light (after thinking that the light that came with the starter kit, a household lightbulb, was sufficient) and reading that she needs a better basking light. But now she's on a light at night schedule. After reading the site, I see that it's better to have her lights on during the day. Any good way to transition her to a day schedule?

I'll be asking a LOT of questions...so hold on. My RES is named Glow! My niece named her. Lovin being a turtle owner!

I would say just switch over. A good rule of thumb is to try to mimic whats happening outside the best you can.

Welcome, Ruby!
Yeah, it's amazing how dim those "big-box" petstore salespeople can be. I NEVER ask them anything anymore. My local Petsmart has 12 turtles crammed in a 20-g tank with 2 inches of water.
Just keep reading this forum and asking questions for the real deal.
