General Care Discussion :: Check-Ups

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

So I was thinking within the next week or two (when I get paid, I'm back at work right now) maybe I should take Tesla to the vet. He seems healthy, but I bought him from a pet store and possibly needs to get looked at just in case.

Is it a bad idea to give a turtle a check-up? I kind of wanted to scope out the local vet before an emergency breaks loose in case they're unreliable.

If you have the money then go for it. Might be nice to get to know the doctor in case there is an emergency. I brought my ferret to the vet with my dog once and it ended up being a good thing later on. He was the only vet there that had ferrets and would treat them. I had taken her to another vet (because they were closer and it was an emergency ) and they tried to put her to sleep and I went to him for a second opinion.. she just had a minor back injury and was able to fix her right up! Its good to get to know the different doctors (if you even have options for a turtle)

There's one herp vet in Louisville, KY as far as I know and it's not too far away from my house. I need to scope it out because I think the second closest one is in Lexington (2 hours away from where I live D:). I make a bit of money from co-op, so I figured it would be a good investment.
