Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

I promised someone I'd upload this. It's terrible. :(
I'm Chinese and when I went to China, I found a place where they sold turtles at a local tourist attraction. It breaks my heart. They also sold a squirrel in a tank like that size. And crickets. I was like [!!!].. catch your own crickets, don't cage them like that. -__-

This is not something that happens just overseas, things like this happen in the states. I got my turtle from a set up just a little bigger than that. I know I should not have gotten one however I just could not leave without trying to help just one.
Please excuse any spelling and/or grammatical errors. I'm dyslexic.I do my best!

I know. It's sad. You can't encourage them, but you can't leave the poor turtles. Aha.

But nature probably is more cruel to them. I know the wild turtles have very low survivability, only one among dozens can survive to adulthood.
So mayby they have better chance to live when they are at market waiting to be sold

Animals dying in the wild is a necessary and vital part of evolution; every turtle can't survive, only the fittest, or they wouldn't be suited to their environment. Dying in nature isn't "cruel", because there isn't an ill-intentioned force behind it, it's just life.

Sticking 50 little turtles in a ten gallon tank without regard to their natural environment or health, however, is cruel. Probably just as many die in those conditions as they do in the wild. Intentionally misinforming people to buy them and give them improper homes only makes things worse.

Well, since you come to this forum, I suppose you also have a wild turtle (or turtles) as pet. Isn't that an intervention of natural selection? No matter what intention you have........

I think you misunderstand what I'm saying. I don't think keeping them as pets is wrong, I disagree with the notion that turtles being exploited in Chinatown markets are somehow better off than their wild counterparts as you said.

I don't know where my turtles came from because I adopted them from a different owners, I didn't purchase them as hatchlings. They maybe captive bred or maybe not.

That's pretty true. Hatchlings need more care and a specific environment than adult turtles. If hatchlings are catched to be sold for money in the market, now that really hurts nature and endangers the turtle itself. I personally think if a turtle is going to be put in harsh environments and care (like those in my picture) then it's waaaayyyy better off wild. Pet turtles are good for people who actually treat them like a pet, and same for all other animals.
