Hey guys my friend's sister has a baby turtle that she didnt properly care for and asked me to look at it. I think it may be shell rot? She has it in a ten gallon with no heater , no uva no uvb but has a turtle dock for it. She said its eating its swimming and sits on the dock but its pointless cause theirs no lights, the tank also has gravel.

That's shell rot. Did the missing scutes get bitten off or did they rot away?

Can I use this on his shell to help him or is it too bad and he needs to go to the vet?

I've never heard of that product before, and most kinds from the store are for minor issues. I think a vet visit is urgently needed here :(

Wow. he's already looking so much better after that treatment, that is so awesome that you did this for your turtle, he is lucky to have some one like you that cares enough to take him to the vet.

The vet gave him an injection of a mix of vitamins cause he said his shell was soft it was mix of vitamin A,D,E and B. But for the shell rot he said to soak him in Tricide once a day for 15-20 min and scrub it with a soft toothbrush. The vet also told me to gently scrape the dead scutes off with my fingernail and peel of the ones that will easly peel off. I know i was surprised how good he looks after just one treatment. I'm leaving to go to Vegas in the morning for 3 days to celebrate my one yr wedding anniversery with my husband. And I know my mom wont touch him so she would be able to do the treatment for him while we are gone so we found a reliable pet sitter that has had turtles before. And can you believe that his entire vet bill only cost me 45 bucks for everything!

I'm not sure how effective Tricide is, but hopefully it is effective. A vitamin injection is an overused form of treatment, I lose a bit of trust when a vet automatically suggests it.

Very nice improvement. Glad to see the fungas or bacteria that was causing the rot is almost gone.
