General Care Discussion :: Heater?

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Post Posted: Fri Dec 02, 2011 11:45 am   Heater?

My turtle has come a long way in the few months that I've had it. He eats pellets and jello shots; chews on cuttlebones; nips at lettuce leaves; basks on his platform; chases the minnows around and generally seems fairly content. He is still very shy and spends most of the day hiding, but he does bask at night.

He is indoors in a 2/3 filled 110 gallon stock tank--I think he has around 75 gallons of water. I don't currently have a heater and the water has been hovering around 67-69 degrees. I think a heater is in order, correct? I see Big Al's has them on sale. What size should I get?...and what temperature should I strive to attain?

As always, thanks for the advice!

I could give you a lengthy explanation and reasoning or I could cut to the chase.

Get the 300 watt eheim jager heater for $24 from Big Als and set your temperature for like 76 degrees.
