General Care Discussion :: Bacterial Infection in Goldfish Tank (Shared Python)

Hey everyone, it's been a while since I posted. Anyway, my goldfish seems to be having some kind of bacterial infection, at least I think that's what it is, doesn't look like fungus. I'm salting the tank and trying to take care of that.

Now, the thing is that I have 1 python for water changes that I use on both the goldfish tank and the turtle tank.... I changed the water of both tanks about 5 days ago before I knew anything was wrong and now I'm a bit panicky about what I could have introduced into Tomi's tank! Do you guys think there's something I should do? Also, I was thinking about disinfecting the hose with a diluted bleach solution. What do you guys think? Tomi is doing fine, I'm just pretty scared - I don't want to get him sick. Should I add something to the tank??

I would disinfect the python. Pick a tank and use it only for that tank now. Tomi should be fine. Just do a water change and keep an eye on him. They have antibiotics for aquariums at the pet store. lf needed for both tanks. Only use if necessary though. It will wipe out your good bacteria and you'll have to cycle again. How's the goldfish?

Before I use my Python to fill, I usually let the water run through it for a minute or two. If you did something similar, it should be OK. If you want to be extra cautious, get some replacement tubing from a hardware store and do a change.

I think I'll disinfect the hose - I really need it for Tomi's tank b/c it's 75 gallons - kinda tough to fill it with buckets. The goldfish tank is only 20 gallons so it's not that big a deal. Anyway, the goldfish is much better, although I did have a bit of a panic attack at the beginning! hahah - I love my goldfish almost as much as Tomi

Thanks so much for answering, both you and Steve. Now that I think about it, I might have some extra tubing lying around. Although I'd probably want to disinfect that as well.
