General Care Discussion :: ceramic rings???

Is there anyone that can describe and post a picture of the ceramic rings that u r using in your tank I've read a lot about them in the care guide and in the forums and know I should get them but have no clue what they r...is it litterally a ceramic ring nothing special or do I need to buy them at the pet store...also would it even be fiesable to put them in a tank with only 4 gal of water beings I do a full change once the week and a 50% in between...I do have a filter but its a submmersable..I do have carbon in the filter but the filter I don't think actually filters more pushes water around poop still stays on the floor but water is clear...anyway the filter says it filter 90 gal per hour..is this sufficiant till maybe late jan? Skipperdee is 1 and 1/4 inch the only bad thing is I can't get his water ubove 75 degrees basking is 90 degrees...he's just skiddish when he sees me cause he's been traumatized for a week with vitamin treatments..just wondering if there is anything more I can do for him till I can afford his permanent home

If you're planning on a new habitat in a month or so, I wouldnt bother with the bio media for the small submersible filter. Just keep doing your water changes.

When you get a more permanent home and a larger filter like a canister, then you really need the bio rings.
Do you have a heater?

Yeah but its for a beta tank got cause it says for up to I think 5 gal. But it was the only one for such a small amount of water would have got a bigger one but was afraid of litterally cooking him he comes out and basks most of the day i m thinking that's cause his water is too cold..either wayhe needs the basking time with his shell the way it is..for baby res what is the result of not haveing the right temps so I can look for anything unusual till I can fix this..if he needs a vet I would rather tke him early on rather than wait..I know ri is an issue to look for but I monitor his swimming every couple of hours and haven't seen any difference in that and he gets weekly vitamins so when I handle him I do check him over he looks to be growing now (assuming that's what the black lines r from) so that's a good thing right?

75 should be OK, though slightly warmer would be better. What are you using to measure water temps? Thick black seams are an indication of growth, but you always want growth to be steady and consistent.

I am using an under water thermomerter I will post a pic as soon as I post this..

That's what I'm working with for water temp..I keep it as far from the heater as I can to make sure the coldest part of the tank isn't too cold...should I move closer and see if I get a different reading?

this was taken before I tookout the rocks...so don't get upset 'bout the rocks..but the thermometer is still in the same spot

Is the Beta heater good to use with plastic tanks? As Steve said those temps should be ok. When he gets cold he'll go bask. Glad to see you are getting ready for a larger tank and looking into cycling it. Google aquarium cycling. Interesting and fun.
