General Care Discussion :: Fluttering

Taking care of your turtle's overall health.

Hi Guys, my map turtles have been fluttering quite alot recently, and what i believe to be the female (the larger of the 2 about 5-6 inches) can become agressive towards the male, the male aslo spends little time (if any) in the basking area. i have recently upgraded my tank and made an above tank basking platform, both seem slightly nervous when they are up there and never quite at ease. its been about a month and I was awaky for a week and had them on auto feed, but they do not seem to be any more comfortable in their surroundings.

If the fluttering become agressive whats my best option? spilt them up, divide the tank? they spend the majority of the time swimming with each other and im not sure if this is a good or bad thing.

Thanks in advance guys.

PS. It actually looks like the male is 'pestering' the female and she wants nothing to do with it. Something im sure a few women on here might be able to relate to haha,

If your tank is large enough to be divided, then it would be a good idea to do so. The fluttering could escalate, especially when the female is not receptive. Can you post a picture of the basking platform? What's the temperature at? It's not unusual for them to be skittish up there, and certain ATBA designs don't work as well.
