General Care Discussion :: Is this shell OK?

we've had this guy (presumed) for about 3 years now. I have noticed a section of the carpace toward the bottom of the scutes with a white line - not necessarily at the main joint. I had noticed at least on of these for a long time (>1 year) and don't really think much of it, but I now notice it is on both sides. Does not seam to match descriptions of shell rot so far as I can tell. Have a look at these pics, and let me know what you think (please disregard the cloudy water - I've been off balance for a little while and in trying to clear that up - not a normal condition).

BTW - For all who claim fish and turtle cannot live together - I have about 8 goldfish growing to be fine young carp that beg to differ.

I think you need to start with improving the turtles habitat.

@happycamper - Your short answers are unhelpful. My question is directly related to the white marks on the shell, which I am wondering if anyone knows what it is or if it is something to be concerned about. If you, or anyone else, could comment with regards to my concern, I would greatly appreciate it.

The tank is off balance right now, I know - I beleive this is due to a recent cleaning that may have been too thorough, and I am trying to regain balance. The lines on the shell have been there longer than the balance issue.

Looks like it's air pockets under the scutes and they might flake off as they shed. The "curling" of the marginal scutes are not normal and is usually attributed to diet/UVB issues.

Thank you. Is there anything specific to provide for "diet." We have not provided feeder plants in a while, but do offer dark green lettuce, reptomin food sticks, and freeze dried krill. As for UVB, the tank gets tones of indirect sunlight and I got a second hand 20W durolite Vita-Lite.

Also, is there a good thread on shedding? As far as I can tell, our turtle has never shed.

There is a feeding list sticky that has some good ideas. I'm not familiar with the "20W durolite Vita-Lite", but most compact UVBs need to be replaced every 4 or 5 months. Indirect sunlight (and glass) would also completely filter out UVB rays.
