General Care Discussion :: Brixie very Inactive lately

For the last about week or two, Brixie has done nothing but float in one spot and occasionally bask. Whenever I show her food, she still freaks out and eats, but other than that, she won't chase the fish or exercise. What is wrong???

Possible boredom. Does she still interact with you?

[Peva]

When I walk up to the glass, she will look at me but nothing else. Unless, of course, I show her food.

Has anything changed in the setup?

[Peva]

Not really. I did a full clean, but she has been fine mostly. The basking station detached and floated a little further away, and I haven't have a chance to firmly attach it, but that has happened a lot before at she never got this lazy.

What's the water temperature? I'd bump it up to 80F.

[Peva]

Now she isn't eating either! I'll bump up the temperature. It was at, I think, 74. When I stuck my hand it (I saw some peeled glue at the bottom of the tank and needed to get it out) it seemed much colder than usual. I hope that's the problem.

Try to get the most accurate reading you can. Don't rely on what you feel, it's very tricky to be close that way. 74F is not way off, but have you tried any treats?

She won't respond to her pellets, I don't really have any treats for her. I'm very glad she is still basking quite a lot. But she spends a lot of time sleeping underwater, and isn't responding to any food. The fish are getting fat since she isn't eating them or the food give her. Maybe I'll go buy some treats, some kind of shrimp or snail treats maybe.

Also try a different brand of pellets if you can.

Ok, this weekend I'll try and go by some treats. Not too fond of trying different pellets, I bought a $10 bottle of pellets just recently, and I hate wasting money. But what needs to be done will be done.

My mom went and got all kinds of treats, bloodworms, smaller tastier pellets, she still wont eat anything...

Bump up the water temp to 80F. Does she just rest in one spot? In water or on the dock? Any swimming problems?

[Peva]

I did bump the temp up, so I'm not sure if that's a problem. She still sort of swims around, but commonly just floats in one spot. There is usually a little water on the dock, but not much. No swimming problems, when I scare her, she still darts real fast. Maybe I'm just worried about her, I'll post some pictures of the shell tomorrow.
